Nyeri Deputy Speaker Charged with Assault and Malicious Damage

Nyeri Deputy Speaker Samuel Kariuki appeared before a Nyeri court on December 16, 2019, facing charges of assault and malicious damage to property.

According to the charges, Kariuki allegedly assaulted Daniel Wachira and damaged a private vehicle on December 8 at Giakanja area.

The incident occurred during a visit by Deputy President William Ruto at Giakanja Secondary School for a fundraiser.

Kariuki denied all four charges and was released on a Sh100,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh50,000.

His lawyer, Wahome Gikonyo, requested to be supplied with statements pending the mention of the matter on March 26, 2020.
