On December 17, 2019, Raila Odinga's plan to defeat Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential election was exposed.

According to highly placed sources, Raila has crafted a post-Uhuru power arrangement that accommodates the interests of Mount Kenya region in his government.

The plan, which is set to be implemented after a referendum on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), aims to create a prime minister's post that will be given to the Kikuyu community.

Raila also plans to have a slice of votes from the Kalenjin community, as well as from other marginalized communities such as the Luhya, Luo, Kamba, and Coastal communities.

The positions reserved for smaller communities include Speakers of Parliament, top judicial officers, and police bosses.

Ruto's anger emanated from suspicion that President Uhuru Kenyatta has indirectly endorsed Raila's 2022 game plan, which involves the collapse of Jubilee, ODM, Wiper, Kanu, MCC, and other like-minded parties to form the Jubilee National Coalition, which will be Raila's vehicle for the presidency.

The power plot has led to Ruto's current wars with Machakos governor Alfred Mutua, who has accused Ruto of threatening him with unspecified consequences over his anti-Ruto presidency campaigns.
