December 17, 2019 - Meru RFC's struggles have taken a hit with the resignation of head coach Patrick Mwika, a former flanker for the team.

Mwika attributed his decision to the lack of commitment from players, who often fail to attend training sessions but show up for matches. This has resulted in the team losing four games in eight matches, causing them to drop from third to fifth place in the KRU Central Nationwide standings.

"It's very annoying to turn up for training sessions and find two or three players, and during match day, all the squad is available, that's shows lack of respect and commitment from the players," Mwika said in an interview with Citizen Digital.

He also expressed concern over the club's financial situation, which has led to unpaid match allowances for the players. "The club is going through a lot; there is lack of funds which makes the club unstable forcing the management to go through rough times and are unable to cater for the club expenses," Mwika noted.

Despite his resignation, Mwika remains open to negotiations with other clubs interested in his services.

Meru RFC currently sits fifth in the KRU Central Nationwide standings with 22 points, 13 behind table-toppers Embu RFC.
