Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced plans to ease the tax burden on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.

On December 12, 2019, during Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, President Kenyatta called for a review of the tax structures to reduce the tax burden on small businesses while promoting tax compliance.

He directed the National Treasury and the Kenya Revenue Authority to address the challenges facing MSMEs, including taxes and tax administration, fees and charges levied by government agencies, and access to credit.

President Kenyatta also promised to simplify trade processes, reduce bureaucracy, and improve consumer protection.
