On December 17, 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued a statement denying allegations that they had summoned rapper Kennedy Ombima, also known as King Kaka.

According to the DCI's Twitter handle, no one from the organization had summoned King Kaka, and they warned individuals seeking publicity to refrain from using their platform for media attention.

"We wish to condemn strongly false information being peddled through social media to the effect that one Kennedy Ombima (@RabbitTheKing) has been summoned. Nobody from @DCI_Kenya has summoned him," the DCI tweeted.

The statement further cautioned, "Anybody wishing for publicity should be warned to desist from using the @DCI_Kenya as a platform in seeking media attention."

King Kaka had earlier claimed that he had been summoned by the CID, prompting activist Boniface Mwangi to call for a gathering at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.

The rapper's song Wajinga Nyinyi has been at the center of controversy, eliciting mixed reactions from Kenyans.
