Published on December 17, 2019, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is seeking to persuade the Premier League club's American owners to release funds to bolster his injury-stricken squad in the January transfer window.
The London club is currently ninth in the league, following a 1-1 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday. Palace's Jairo Riedewald was forced off at halftime after aggravating a hip injury, adding to the club's injury woes.
Palace is already missing several key players, including left backs Patrick van Aanholt and Jeffrey Schlupp, centre back Gary Cahill, and winger Andros Townsend, due to injury. Centre back Mamadou Sakho is also suspended.
In a bid to address these issues, Hodgson is trying to convince the American owners, including Chairman Steve Parish, to release funds for new signings. Hodgson stated, 'We don't really go into the transfer market. I'm trying to persuade the American owners in particular that this is something we really need to do.'
He added, 'I thought we needed to do it in the summer but we didn't succeed in getting the players we thought were necessary to improve our squad then. Nothing has changed, it's still the same positions I'm talking about and would like us to improve upon.'
