Kenya's efforts to improve industrialization standards have taken a significant step forward with the establishment of a taskforce to champion the Standards and Quality Infrastructure Reforms. The taskforce was appointed by Industry, Trade and Co-operatives CS, Peter Munya, on December 17, 2019.
The taskforce's key roles include reviewing and evaluating the country's standards and infrastructure, identifying areas for improvement, and recommending reforms to enhance industrialization standards. This move comes at a time when the country has been grappling with issues of counterfeit products in the market, despite the presence of bodies such as the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
The taskforce will work closely with KEBS and other institutions dealing with standards to eliminate illegal and unfair trade practices in the country. The team will submit regular progress reports to the CS and a final report within two months.
