Kenyan rapper King Kaka has sparked controversy with his spoken word piece, Wajinga Nyinyi, which has been trending since its release on YouTube in December 2019.

The song, which spells out the ills of politicians and blames Kenyan citizens for voting them back into office, has been a subject of national debate and has attracted the attention of prominent media personalities.

King Kaka, whose real name is Kennedy Ombima Tariq, has been summoned by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and has also received a threat of defamation from Kirinyanga County Governor Anne Waiguru, who is named in the song.

Waiguru had asked King Kaka to pull down the video and apologize for maligning her name by associating her with a case she had been acquitted of.

However, King Kaka has rejected an interview invite from Jeff Koinange, a news anchor at Citizen TV, citing that his message is already out there and Kenyans are awakening to the hard truths.

"My message is already out there and Kenyans are awakening to the hard truths, I did not release this song for cheap fame," King Kaka allegedly responded to Koinange.
