December 17, 2019, marked a significant day for Modern Coast Bus Express company as it resumed its transport services after a ban imposed by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) was lifted.

The ban had been imposed following a fatal accident on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, where two of the company's buses collided, killing seven people and injuring 60 others.

According to a statement posted on the company's social media pages, services resumed on December 17, 2019, at 1 pm after NTSA granted permission.

"We are pleased to inform all our passengers that we have received permission from NTSA to resume normal bus services from 1 pm today, December 17, 2019," the statement read.

As part of the conditions for resuming services, the company had to fulfill various requirements, including a refresher course for drivers and conductors, which was facilitated by NTSA last Saturday.

Passengers who were unable to travel between December 12 and December 16 will receive a Sh300 discount voucher code via text messages for their next new ticket purchase.

Additionally, the company has initiated the process of refunds through M-Pesa for all affected passengers, which is expected to be concluded in the next few days.

So far, 46 of the company's buses have been inspected at various inspection centres across the country by NTSA, with the rest of the fleet awaiting inspection.

Travelers have been urged to be patient as the company announces new travel schedules.
