Former Masinde Muliro University Vice Chancellor Fredrick Otieno has passed away in Eldoret, Kenya.
According to his family, Otieno succumbed to a stroke at a hospital in Eldoret on Tuesday morning, December 17, 2019.
He had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Tophill hospital a few days earlier.
Reports indicate that Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya was among leaders who visited him at the hospital on Sunday.
During his tenure at Masinde Muliro University, Otieno faced allegations of corruption, which led to his removal after only one term in office.
His lawyer, Martin Oloo, has come out to defend his client, blaming critics for allegedly 'hounding' him out of office.
“Those who know his battles with some Council members of Masinde Muliro including one member born in Western, and some staff of Masinde Muliro know how he was unfairly hounded out of office,” Oloo said.
