Racist Remarks Alleged Against Saudi Arabian Referee in Indian Super League

On Tuesday, India's soccer governing body, the All India Football Federation (AIFF), announced an investigation into allegations of racist remarks made by a Saudi Arabian referee against Gabonese forward Serge Kevyn.

The incident occurred during Sunday's Indian Super League (ISL) match between Mumbai City FC and Bengaluru FC, where Kevyn, who has represented Gabon eight times, was allegedly subjected to racist comments by Turki Mohammed Al Khudayr.

According to the AIFF, the complaint has been forwarded to the disciplinary committee to investigate and take appropriate action if found guilty.

The clubs involved in the match declined to comment on the matter.

Mumbai City FC, which is owned by the Premier League champions Manchester City, secured a 3-2 away victory in the match, with the winning goal scored in injury time.

Published on December 17, 2019, the incident has sparked concerns about racism in Indian football.
