December 17, 2019, marked a day of controversy for King Kaka, a Kenyan rapper, after he claimed to have received death threats following the release of his song Wajinga Nyinyi.
The song, which was released on December 16, 2019, painted Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru as one of the corrupt leaders in the country, referring to the National Youth Service scandal.
Waiguru responded by slapping King Kaka with a list of demands, including issuing an apology and pulling down the video on all his social media platforms.
However, the DCI has denied summoning King Kaka, terming the allegations a publicity stunt.
According to the DCI, anyone seeking publicity should be warned to desist from using their platform in seeking media attention.
King Kaka had earlier tweeted that he had been summoned by the CID, but the DCI has since clarified that this was not the case.
It is unclear who is telling the truth, as there are possibilities that the agency could have had a second thought and reconsidered the decision following the outrage the news caused.
King Kaka's song has been doing well, and the DCI's theory of a publicity stunt cannot be refuted.
