NTSA Reinstates Modern Coast's License After Accident ¶
On December 12, an accident occurred involving Modern Coast buses, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuring others.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) subsequently revoked the company's license, citing safety concerns.
However, on December 17, NTSA reinstated the license, allowing Modern Coast to resume operations.
According to a statement on Twitter, the company's management expressed gratitude for the reinstatement, stating that they had met and would continue to meet the necessary safety standards.
"We are pleased to inform our customers that we have been given permission by NTSA to resume our normal operations starting at 7 pm on December 17," the statement read.
"We have met and will continue to meet all the requirements as stipulated by NTSA, and we are committed to ensuring the safety of our passengers," the statement added.
As part of the reinstatement, NTSA had ordered the company's drivers and conductors to undergo additional safety training, and 85 of the company's buses were inspected and cleared for operation.
On December 14, 46 buses were inspected and cleared in Nairobi and Mombasa, and the company's employees underwent new safety training.
Reactions from Kenyans on social media were mixed, with some expressing relief that the company's license had been reinstated, while others questioned the decision, citing concerns about the company's safety record.
