December 17, 2019, marked a tragic day in Kenya's judicial history with the mysterious death of Justice Odek.
According to reports, Justice Odek had arrived in Kisumu on Thursday as part of the Court of Appeal judges scheduled to hear cases in Western Kenya.
His driver dropped him off at the Groovehut Apartments, a serviced residence located a stone's throw from the Kisumu Central police station.
However, what transpired next remains unclear, as a confidential police report indicated that Justice Odek left his apartment alone on Friday, drove to an unknown destination, and returned late that evening.
It was not until the next morning that the police broke into the apartment following calls and a fruitless search, only to find Justice Odek's lifeless body.
Details surrounding his death are still emerging, but it is alleged that he was found with blood oozing from his private parts and left ear, and a bruised hand.
Chief Magistrate Julius Ng'arnga'r, who had called Justice Odek to attend court, expressed shock at the news of his death.
The investigation into Justice Odek's death is ongoing, with the police working to piece together the events leading up to his tragic demise.
