On December 13, a dramatic incident unfolded in Nairobi when Rose Muinde, a 20-year-old Chuka University student, allegedly set fire to her husband's Sh 40 million residential house.

According to reports, Muinde, who is studying for a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture, had attempted to jump from the building's fourth floor after a fight with her husband, Kennedy Kimani.

Kimani had restrained her from committing suicide, but Muinde's anger and desperation led her to set the house ablaze and attempt to lock herself inside before neighbours intervened.

On Monday, Muinde appeared before the Makadara Law Court, where she was charged with arson. She denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Angelo Kithinji.

Muinde was released on a Sh 500,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount. The hearing of the case is set to start on April 23 next year.
