On December 17, 2019, King Kaka, a Kenyan rapper, found himself at the center of a controversy after being summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
According to his Twitter handle, King Kaka confirmed that he would be availing himself at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road, but he did not reveal whether the summons were related to his hit song Wajinga Nyinyi.
Activist Boniface Mwangi announced that Kenyans of goodwill would accompany King Kaka to the DCI headquarters, stating, 'I have spoken to @RabbitTheKing and he informs me that @DCI_Kenya have summoned him. His friends, fellow artistes and Kenyans of goodwill are joining him at DCI Headquarters, Kiambu Road, at 12pm.'
Blogger Dennis Itumbi advised the DCI to stop interfering with civil matters, saying, 'Dear @DCI_Kenya, let Civil matters remain in the Civil Court. Attempting to criminalize the Creative Economy, is losing the plot.'
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru had previously asked King Kaka to delete the song or face her in court.
