King Kaka's Song Sparks Controversy ¶
King Kaka's song 'Wajinga Nyinyi' has been making waves in Kenya since its release on December 14, 2019. The song, which translates to 'You Idiots,' has been criticized for its harsh lyrics targeting corrupt leaders and those who vote for them based on tribal lines.
Among those targeted in the song is Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, who has asked King Kaka to apologize for the lyrics and remove the song from social media or face legal action.
However, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has come to King Kaka's defense, claiming that the song was meant to please Deputy President William Ruto. Ngunyi made the claims on Twitter on December 16, 2019, saying that the song was meant to undermine the dignity of certain leaders without sufficient evidence.
"For Anne Waiguru. Sack King Kaka. Insults are not suitable to be used as evidence to undermine the dignity of people. But I must say I enjoyed this song (in a subtle way). I think Ruto also likes it," Ngunyi tweeted.
Waiguru's letter to King Kaka read: "It is necessary to acknowledge mistakes through words, and legal action will be taken for our client."
On December 17, 2019, some Twitter users expressed their disappointment with King Kaka for not mentioning Deputy President William Ruto in the song, using the hashtag #KingKakaForgotDP.
