On December 13, a dramatic incident unfolded in Nairobi when a 20-year-old university student allegedly set fire to a Sh40 million residential house.

According to reports, Rose Muinde, a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture student at Chuka University, had a heated argument with her husband Kennedy Kimani, which led to a desperate attempt to take her own life.

Kimani intervened, restraining Muinde from jumping from the 4th floor of their building.

However, in a shocking turn of events, Muinde allegedly set the house ablaze, with neighbours later rescuing her from the burning building.

On Monday, Muinde appeared before the Makadara Law Court, where she was charged with arson.

She denied the charges, and was released on a Sh500,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.

The case is set to resume on April 23 next year.
