On December 16, 2019, Nairobi Ward Representatives met to discuss the impeachment of Governor Mike Sonko, who had been barred from accessing his office due to corruption-related charges.
High Court judge Weldon Korir directed George Bush and Lawrence Oyugi, who had moved to court to stop the impeachment, to file a formal application instead of making an oral request.
According to reports, over 50 MCAs agreed to start collecting signatures for Sonko's impeachment motion and called for a special sitting to table the motion.
As part of the conditions for his release on a Sh15 million cash bail, Sonko was barred from accessing his office until the Sh357 million graft case is heard and determined.
