Carlo Ancelotti, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss, is set to take charge of Everton after reportedly agreeing a deal with the club's board.

Ancelotti, who was sacked by Napoli last week, was Everton's top target to replace Marco Silva, and initial talks between the two parties are believed to have been positive.

Despite being linked with the Arsenal job, Ancelotti is expected to take charge of the team against Arsenal this weekend, with Duncan Ferguson remaining in interim charge for the EFL Cup quarter-final against Leicester on Wednesday.

Ancelotti's appointment comes after a host of managers were linked with the job, including former Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta, who is now the frontrunner to take charge at Goodison Park.

Everton have been struggling in the relegation zone, and the club's board, led by owner Farhad Moshiri and director of football Marcel Brands, have been searching for the right man to turn the team's fortunes around.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw with Manchester United, Ferguson said, "We need the best manager in the world to manage Everton Football Club. I’ve not got the experience in management. I’m all for us bringing in a top, top manager and if I can be part of that, brilliant."
