On December 16, 2019, the ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru received a 96-page report from the task force on Government Information and Public Communications. The report highlighted a raft of measures aimed at restoring public confidence in government institutions.
Taskforce chairperson David Makali identified several challenges hindering efficient delivery of information, including declining trust in public communication and institutions, lack of coherent government communication strategy, and under-sourced public communication.
Among the key recommendations is the establishment of a Government Communications Service, consolidation of publishing outfits, and full funding for KBC. The taskforce also suggested making the government pullout MyGov a standalone newspaper, setting up a one-stop portal for government documents, and revamping all government digital platforms.
These measures are expected to help restore public confidence in government institutions and enable efficient public broadcasting services.
