On Monday, PSV Eindhoven announced the sacking of manager Mark van Bommel, citing 'recent disappointing results'.
Van Bommel, who had managed the club since June 2018, leaves after a run of six defeats, four draws, and two wins in his last 12 games in all competitions.
PSV, who were beaten 3-1 by rivals Feyenoord in the league on Sunday, are fourth in the table on 31 points, 10 fewer than first-placed Ajax Amsterdam, who are level on 41 with AZ Alkmaar in second.
According to the club's general manager Toon Gerbrands, 'performances and results have been far below what is expected at PSV.' He added that 'matches are measuring moments but we also keep a close eye on the progress down the road.'
Gerbrands stated that 'following a review of the current status in and around the first team, we have come to this painful decision. We have all tried hard to turn things around but unfortunately failed to do so.'
PSV said they would appoint a temporary replacement to Van Bommel later on Monday.
