Kenya: Governors Defy Court Order, Vow to Continue Serving Despite Corruption Charges

Kenyan governors, including Ferdinand Waititu of Kiambu, Moses Lenolkulal of Samburu, and Mike Sonko of Nairobi, have defied a court order and vowed to continue serving despite facing corruption charges.

The governors made the announcement on Twitter, stating that they will challenge the court's decision in court.

The court order, issued in July 2019 by the High Court's Mumbi branch, prohibits governors from returning to office while facing corruption charges.

The governors' decision to defy the court order has sparked controversy, with some arguing that it undermines the rule of law and others arguing that it is a necessary step to protect their rights.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has welcomed the court's decision, stating that it is a necessary step to ensure that public officials are held accountable for their actions.

The EACC has also warned that public officials who engage in corrupt activities will face severe consequences, including being barred from holding public office.

The governors' decision to defy the court order has also raised questions about the independence of the judiciary and the ability of the courts to hold public officials accountable.

As the controversy continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether the governors will succeed in their bid to continue serving despite facing corruption charges.
