Francis Kimanzi, the head coach of Harambee Stars, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of his team in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup. The team, which has been largely composed of players from the local league, has maintained a clean sheet in their matches so far.
Speaking ahead of their semifinal tie against Eritrea, Kimanzi emphasized the importance of the tournament in gauging the players' abilities for future international assignments. He noted that the players have shown a good level of hunger and competitiveness, which is essential for their development.
Among the players who have benefited from the Cecafa experience is Wazito FC teenager Musa Masika. Despite starting only against Zanzibar, Masika is optimistic about his chances of making it to the senior team and is looking forward to the AFCON qualifiers next year.
His teammate Kenneth Muguna, who has played a part in the first match of the Cameroon 2021 campaign, echoed Masika's sentiments, emphasizing the need for players to keep competing within themselves to secure a place in the team.
Assistant coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno has also emphasized the importance of defending the CECAFA title won in 2017, even as the team continues to develop.
