On December 16, 2019, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua claimed that his life was in danger following threats from Deputy President William Ruto, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, and Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.

According to Mutua, the threats were made on November 25, 2019, at State House in Nairobi. He alleged that Duale and Murkomen told him they would 'teach him a lesson' for attacking DP Ruto.

However, Duale and Murkomen quickly responded, terming Mutua's claims as 'theatrics.' They accused the Machakos Governor of seeking attention through the outrageous allegations.

Senator Murkomen tweeted, 'Mr. Mutua is writing another episode of his cobra squad series. Having failed spectacularly as a leader, he turned himself into a Joseph Goebbels of his county government. He is of no consequence to anyone to deserve any attention let alone threats. Let's just watch the cinematic theatrics.'

On his part, Duale said, 'Governor Alfred Mutua is at it again seeking attention with the most fictitious allegations that can only fit in his failed Cobra Squad TV show. You will not gain relevance by shouting the names of leaders who have achieved more than he can ever do. Focus on Machakos, Mutua.'

DP Ruto has yet to respond to Mutua's allegations.
