Kenya's national women's volleyball team, the 'Malkia Strikers', will be without the services of experienced setter Janet Wanja in the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifiers in Yaounde, Cameroon, from 3rd to 10th January.

Janet Wanja, who has represented Kenya since 2004, cited personal issues as the reason for her absence, but expressed her willingness to join the team if they qualify for the Olympics.

Head coach Paul Bitok is confident that the team will put up a brave fight in Wanja's absence, with Seychelles-based Jane Wacu, Kenya Prison's Joy Lusenaka, and Esther Mutinda of Kenya Pipeline expected to fill the void.

Bitok also urged the Kenya volleyball federation to register youth and junior players for future CAVB and FIVB assignments to ensure a smooth transition and succession of senior team players.

Kenya last featured at the Olympic Games in 2004 in Athens, Greece.
