December 16, 2019, marked a significant day for Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru as she issued a stern warning to rapper Kennedy Ombima, popularly known as King Kaka, over his song 'Wajinga Nyinyi'.
Waiguru, through her lawyers Kiragu Wathuta and Company Advocates, demanded that King Kaka pull down the song and offer a full unconditional apology within 48 hours.
According to the letter, King Kaka made defamatory references to Waiguru in the song, depicting her as corrupt and involved in the theft of public funds at the National Youth Service (NYS). Waiguru denied the allegations, stating that she has never been charged in a court of law in relation to NYS or any other scandal.
Waiguru accused King Kaka of using her name to gain popularity and enhance his profits at the expense of her reputation. She claimed that the release of the song had occasioned 'grave irreparable and permanent damage to her reputation.'
Interestingly, Constitutional Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, who has previously represented Waiguru at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over NYS-related cases, offered his legal services to King Kaka in case a legal issue arose from the song.
Former Presidential Aspirant Abduba Dida, Kenya Film and Classification Board CEO Ezekiel Mutua, and others have praised King Kaka for his poetic masterpiece, urging Kenyans to reflect on its message.
