President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed his condolences to the family and friends of Court of Appeal Judge Prof James Otieno Odek, who passed away on Monday morning in his home in Kisumu.

Prof Odek, 56, was sworn in as a Court of Appeal Judge in 2012 and was known for his commitment and dedication to the dispensation of justice.

According to the Kisumu County Director of Criminal Investigations, Onesmus Towett, the DCI has commenced an in-depth investigation to establish the cause of Prof Odek's death, which is being treated as sudden death.

President Kenyatta described Prof Odek as a 'prolific intellectual and a gifted legal mind' and prayed for God to comfort and give fortitude to the family at this trying moment.

Prof Odek's body was discovered on the bed in his house, which is next to the Kisumu Central Police station, with his mobile phones intact and no signs of struggle.
