On December 16, 2019, Kenya Airways announced the appointment of Allan Kilavuka as acting CEO, effective January 1, 2020, following the departure of Sebastian Mickosz at the end of the year.
Mickosz, who had been serving as CEO since 2017, had announced his intention to leave the company in early 2019, citing personal reasons.
Under Mickosz's leadership, Kenya Airways had been struggling with mounting debts, which led to a motion in Parliament to nationalize the airline in July 2019. The carrier had posted a half-year loss of Sh8.56 billion.
As acting CEO, Kilavuka will also continue to serve as CEO of Jambojet during the interim period of recruitment for a substantive CEO.
The recruitment process for a new CEO is ongoing, and the board will inform stakeholders once a suitable candidate has been identified.
