December 16, 2019 - Kenya Airways has made a strategic move in appointing Allan Kilavuka as the acting Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2020. This decision comes as the airline steps up its search for a permanent CEO to replace outgoing CEO Sebastian Mikosz.
Mikosz had announced his decision to leave the airline at the end of December this year, before completing his three-year contract. The board of Kenya Airways PLC has appointed Kilavuka, who is currently the CEO of Jambojet Limited, a subsidiary of Kenya Airways, to take on the role of acting CEO until a substantive CEO is recruited and appointed.
“The board of Kenya Airways PLC wishes to announce that effective January 1, 2020, Allan Kilavuka who is currently the CEO of Kenya Airways subsidiary Jambojet Limited, has been appointed to take on the role of acting CEO until a substantive CEO for Kenya Airways is recruited and appointed,” said Kenya Airways board Chairman Michael Joseph in a statement.
Kilavuka will also continue to serve as the CEO of Jambojet, the budget carrier under the Kenya Airways stable. He will be expected to navigate the airline out of its financial struggles, which have left it with a loss of Ksh7.5 billion.
Speaking in June 2019, Kilavuka emphasized the importance of delivering value to shareholders, a goal that will be put to the test as he takes on the challenge of turning around Kenya Airways.
