Chebukati Family Feud: Siblings Clash Over Multimillion-Shilling Estate

December 16, 2019

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati's family is embroiled in a bitter property dispute, with his in-laws accusing each other of attempted poisoning and financial impropriety.

The dispute centers around a multimillion-shilling estate, which includes properties in Nairobi and Vihiga county. The estate is managed by Chebukati's 91-year-old mother-in-law, Rose Otolo.

According to leaked email communications, Mary Chebukati, the IEBC chairman's wife, is accused of attempting to poison her own mother, Rose Otolo. The allegations stem from a suggestion made by Hellen Otolo, Mary's sister, that Mary had planned to poison their mother with non-prescription drugs.

However, Mary denies the allegations, accusing Hellen of attempting to sell family properties and using money to fraudulently take control of the estate management from their mother.

The dispute has escalated to the point where the siblings are accusing each other of financial impropriety and attempting to sell family properties. The situation has attracted the attention of elders, who are now contemplating bringing the family together to end the public mud-smearing.

At the center of the dispute are properties worth millions of shillings, including a plot in Mlango Kubwa estate in Nairobi, houses in South B and South C, two plots in Mathare, and 14 acres of land in Mumias.

The dispute has also led to accusations of name-calling and personal attacks, with Mary referring to Hellen as a 'troublemaker' and a 'prostitute' who has rendered the family poor.

However, Hellen has fired back, accusing Mary of being 'greedy' and 'vicious' in her attempts to take control of the estate.

The dispute has been ongoing for some time, with the siblings exchanging emails and making accusations against each other. The situation has reached a boiling point, with the family now seeking to resolve the dispute through a meeting.
