On December 12, 2019, the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, hosted the draw for the Champions League last 16. The event saw teams that finished in the top two of the competition in the group stages discover their opponents in the knockout round.
Among the four Premier League clubs, Manchester City earned a tricky fixture with Real Madrid, a repeat of the 2016 semi-final. City's tie with Madrid will be a repeat of the 2016 semi-final when a single goal over two legs was enough to take Real through against then Manuel Pellegrini's men.
As for the other Premier League clubs, Liverpool will have to overcome Atletico Madrid in their journey to reclaim the title they won last season. Tottenham, who were runners-up, have drawn RB Leipzig, who are in terrific form in the Bundesliga this season. Chelsea, on the other hand, will battle Bayern Munich, a repeat of the 2012 final.
The last-16 ties will begin on February 18 and 25, with the final slated for May 30 at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul. Here is the full draw:
- Borussia Dortmund v PSG
- Real Madrid v Manchester City
- Atalanta v Valencia
- Atletico Madrid v Liverpool
