Kenya Airways Board has announced the appointment of Allan Kilavuka as the new acting Chief Executive Officer of the company, effective January next year. He will replace Sebastian Mikosz who will be leaving the airline by the end of this year.

According to the Board, Allan Kilavuka is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Jambojet and will continue in his role until a substantive CEO of Kenya Airways is recruited and appointed.

Sebastian Mikosz, who has been at the helm of the airline since 2017, had announced his decision to leave the airline in May this year, several months before the end of his three-year contract. Despite his efforts to turn around the struggling airline, Mikosz's tenure was marked by significant financial challenges, including a first-half pretax loss of Sh8.56 billion.

During his tenure, Mikosz achieved several notable successes, including the launch of direct flights to New York in October last year. He had insisted that the route was a critical investment that would enhance Kenya as a continental aviation hub.

The Board wishes to emphasize that the recruitment process for a substantive Chief Executive Officer with the necessary experience and knowledge was initiated upon the announcement of current CEO's decision to leave the airline at the end of 2019. The process is still actively ongoing and the Board will inform all stakeholders once a suitable candidate has been identified.
