Kenya Airways Board has appointed Allan Kilavuka as the new acting Chief Executive Officer, effective January next year. He will replace Sebastian Mikosz, who will leave the airline by the end of 2019.
According to the Board, the recruitment process for a substantive Chief Executive Officer was initiated upon the announcement of current CEO Sebastian Mikosz's decision to leave the airline at the end of 2019. The process is still ongoing, and the Board will inform stakeholders once a suitable candidate has been identified.
Sebastian Mikosz had been expected to lead the airline for the long haul, having moved his family and pets to Nairobi in 2017. However, he announced his departure in May this year, several months before the end of his three-year contract.
During his tenure, Mikosz achieved several milestones, including launching direct flights to New York in October last year. He emphasized that the route, although not the most lucrative, is a critical investment that will enhance Kenya as a continental aviation hub.
Kenya Airways, which is being renationalized to save it from mounting debts, saw its first-half pretax loss more than double to Sh8.56 billion.
