Published on December 16, 2019, Kenya's men sevens team Shujaa moved up two places in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series standings after finishing sixth in the second round of the Circuit at Cape Town Sevens over the weekend.

Shujaa's impressive performance saw them reach the main cup quarter-finals for the first time since 2016, where they succumbed to a 12-05 loss against the hosts.

Before their defeat, the team had an unbeaten run in the group stages, drawing 24-24 against Ireland and winning against Samoa and Australia with scores of 24-10 and 14-07 respectively.

Shujaa's winger Alvin Otieno was a standout performer, earning a spot in the Cape Town dream team with his excellent ball carries.

With 30 points, Otieno tops the scoring charts for Shujaa, and his six tries make him the top try-scorer for Kenya, with Mwamba's winger Daniel Taabu leading in conversions with 11.

The team is expected to return home tonight, taking a break before shifting focus to the Hamilton Sevens in New Zealand and Sydney in Australia next year.
