Published on December 16, 2019, a stray lion in Uasin Gishu County had been causing fear among residents for about four weeks.
The presence of the lion had instilled a lot of fear, with residents fearing for their lives and their treasured livestock.
However, the lion's presence had an unexpected effect on the wives of men who were in the habit of arriving home late.
According to residents, some men had changed their evening routines and were reporting home as early as 5 pm, much to the delight of their wives.
"Husbands in this area are in the habit of hanging out till late, with some even sleeping in trenches in their drunken stupor. But the presence of the stray lion made them report home very early," said Cherono, a resident.
During the month-long nights of terror, the lion had allegedly mauled some livestock in the area, but for some women, this was a small price to pay for the benefits of having their husbands home early.
"They would have let it roam free. This was a great deterrent to our men who are in the habit of loitering around the villages and in drinking dens till late. Many had reformed and some were even now controlling their drinking habit," complained Cherotich, a woman who was disappointed that the lion had been captured.
Just to show how much men in Moiben area celebrated the capture, they threw a busaa party all night long the day KWS announced they had finally gotten hold of the king of the jungle.
