Kenya Airways has announced that Allan Kilavuka will take over as the acting CEO, effective January 1, 2020, following the resignation of Sebastian Mikosz, which was offered in December 2019. This announcement comes as the airline continues to face challenges, including a loss-making business and bleeding revenues from inefficiencies.
According to a KQ press release, Allan Kilavuka has been appointed to take the role of CEO of Kenya Airways until a substantive CEO is recruited and appointed. He will also continue his role as CEO of Jambojet during the interim period of recruitment.
Sebastian Mikosz, the outgoing CEO, had sent his letter of resignation in May 2019, citing personal reasons behind the decision. The recruitment process for a substantive CEO with the necessary experience was initiated upon Mikosz's decision to leave the airline, and the process is still actively ongoing.
With over 20 years of experience in aviation, strategy, business process improvement, and financial leadership, Allan Kilavuka has an impressive track record, expanding Jambojet both locally and internationally. He faces significant challenges in his new role, including turning around the airline's financial performance.
