For many mothers, the thought of traveling with their children to the village is a daunting task, especially when it comes to packing. The fear of forgetting something essential can be overwhelming, leading to a phenomenon known as 'overpacking.'
Before becoming a mother, many of us traveled light, but once we had children, our priorities shifted. We began to pack everything we thought our little ones might need, from toys and shoes to medication and food. The list seems endless, and the anxiety of not being prepared can be exhausting.
As a result, cars are often overpacked, leaving little room for passengers. The sight of a family car, heavily loaded with bags and luggage, is a common sight during the festive season. The occupants of the vehicle may seem like a large family, but in reality, it's often just two adults and a child.
Mothers will stop at nothing to ensure their children are comfortable and entertained during the journey. They'll pack electronics, such as blenders and food warmers, and even buy additional items en route to the village. The result is a car that's bursting at the seams, with little space for anyone else.
So, the next time you plan to hike a lift to the village from a young family, think twice. There may be little or no space for you in the car, and you might even have to consider carrying a dismantled baby cot on your lap all through the journey. Merry Christmas to all the mothers in the house!
