December 16, 2019, marked a significant day in Kenya's music scene as King Kaka's latest release, 'Wajinga Nyinyi', went viral, sparking heated debates within the country's political class.
While some might expect the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) under Dr Ezekiel Mutua's leadership to take action against the song, Dr Mutua has surprisingly announced that no such action will be taken.
According to Dr Mutua, the song's message is exactly what Kenyans need to hear to wake up from their 'deep sleep'. He has urged Kenyans to reflect on the message and learn sooner rather than later, rather than wasting time ranting online.
Dr Mutua took to his Facebook page to express his sentiments, stating, 'Let people reflect on the message, but the fact that the rapper can do such production and walk scot-free is evidence that our democracy has come of age. Try that in Uganda or Rwanda and things will be different.'
It is clear that King Kaka's 'Wajinga Nyinyi' has rattled the political class, with some calling out the rapper for his expose and asking him to keep off. However, Dr Ezekiel Mutua has publicly announced that the board will not interfere with the production, and those who feel defamed can seek legal redress.
