On Tuesday, the Kenya National Theatre will host the 6th edition of the Sanaa Theatre Awards, where veteran actress Lucy Wangui will be feted with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ms. Wangui, famous for her role as a strict judge in 'Vioja Mahakamani' TV dramas, will be celebrated in the presence of Deputy President William Ruto.

She will follow in the footsteps of her colleagues Mama Kayai and the late Ojwang Hatari, who have previously received the award.

Other notable nominees include Prof. Washington Omondi, one of the composers of the National Anthem, who will be awarded for his contributions to Kenyan Theatre.

According to George Orido, the founder and Director of the awards, the event aims to recognize excellence in Kenyan Theatre and maintain high standards in the industry.

"This annual recognition has the impact of keeping standards of theatre high and as a result, a sustained and robust audience base," Orido said during the official launch of nominees at the Kenya Cultural Centre on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.
