Dr. Miguna Miguna, a Kenyan lawyer deported last year, is set to return to the country on January 11, 2020, after a court ruling in his favor.
On Sunday, Miguna announced on Twitter that he would be landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, following a High Court ruling that declared him a Kenyan by birth.
"My Flight to my Mother Land will land at the JKIA on January 11, 2020. To CJ @dkmaraga, @Kenyajudiciary, my lawyers, KNCHR and @lawsocietykenya: Court Orders must be OBEYED. Ensure COMPLIANCE with Justice Mwita's ORDERS of December 14, 2018," Miguna tweeted.
His return comes after a tumultuous period, marked by his deportation in February last year following his arrest over his role in the mock swearing-in of Raila Odinga on January 30, 2018.
Despite the immigration department's claim that Miguna was in Kenya illegally as he had renounced his Kenyan citizenship when acquiring a Canadian passport, the High Court ruled in December 2018 that he is a Kenyan by birth and awarded him Sh7.2 million in compensation.
