Kenyan lawyer Dr. Miguna Miguna, who was deported last year, is set to return to the country on January 11, 2020. He made the announcement on Twitter, stating that he will land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.
According to Miguna, he will be returning to Kenya after a court ruling declared him a Kenyan by birth. In December 2018, the High Court ruled that holding a Canadian passport does not deny him his birthright.
Justice Chacha Mwita declared that the State violated Miguna's rights by deporting him and awarded him Sh7.2 million in compensation. Miguna was first deported in February last year after his arrest over his role in the mock swearing-in of Odinga on January 30, 2018.
Published on December 16, 2019, Miguna tweeted, 'My Flight to my Mother Land will land at the JKIA on January 11, 2020. To CJ @dkmaraga, @Kenyajudiciary, my lawyers, KNCHR and @lawsocietykenya: Court Orders must be OBEYED. Ensure COMPLIANCE with Justice Mwita's ORDERS of December 14, 2018.'
