Kenya's rugby league has taken a dramatic turn after league leaders Kabras Sugar suffered their first loss of the campaign, going down 20-17 to Homeboyz in Nairobi at the weekend.
The defeat at the Impala Club saw defending champions KCB cut Kabras' lead to just one point, with both teams now on 34 points.
Hosts KCB defeated Impala Saracens 15-5 at Ruaraka to take their points tally to 34, one better than Homeboyz, who are now third in the standings.
With eight rounds of fixtures remaining in the regular season, the chasing pack will certainly feel they have a realistic chance of displacing Kabras ahead of the playoffs slated for next year.
The best two teams at the conclusion of the regular season will receive a bye to the semi-finals, while the third to sixth-place finishers will battle for the remaining two slots.
According to KCB assistant coach Denis Mwanja, every team in the top six is a worthy opponent, and they will need to readjust their game plan when they reach the playoffs.
Menengai Oilers put up a solid display to thrash Kisumu RFC 53-18, dislodging Mwamba from fifth position, while Kisumu and Kenyatta University's Blak Blad occupy the relegation slots.
