As we navigate the complexities of life, it's easy to point fingers and blame others for our circumstances. However, true growth and progress come from taking responsibility for our decisions and actions.
The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) highlights the importance of responsibilities and rights, emphasizing that we must recognize our duties as citizens to promote our rights and those of others.
Young Kenyans today often lack motivation and a sense of purpose, feeling hopeless about their future. It's our duty as older adults to encourage them to get involved and interested in their communities.
The BBI proposes a Charter of Citizen Responsibilities to outline our duties to ourselves, our families, our communities, and the nation. This charter would serve as a guide for civic education, promoting a culture of responsibility among children and young adults.
One of the most striking proposals in the BBI is the call for Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries, along with their families, to be subject to the same public institutions as the rest of us. This would ensure equal treatment and fair standards for all public servants.
As we strive for equality and fair treatment, we must also recognize the importance of civic duties, such as paying taxes, volunteering, and saying no to bribery. By fulfilling these duties, we can create a more just and equitable society.
