Published on December 15, 2019, 22 girls in Kuria East, Migori County, have escaped female genital mutilation and are seeking refuge at Taranyanga Primary Boarding School.

According to Susan Mutinde, chairperson of the Kuria East community-based organization GOSESO, the 22 girls fled from their homes, leaving them without clothes.

GOSESO is providing the girls with temporary shelter, but feeding and clothing them remains a significant challenge.

Mrs. Mutinde has appealed to the government to support the girls at the rescue camp and has called on all leaders to join the fight against female genital mutilation.

Migori County Commissioner Joseph Rotich has assured that security officers are prepared to deal with individuals who abet female circumcision.
