On Sunday, December 15, 2019, Eritrea earned a spot in the CECAFA Senior Challenge semifinals by drawing 0-0 with Somalia in their final group match at the KCCA Lugogo Stadium in Kampala.
With six points from wins over Djibouti and Burundi, Eritrea needed just a point to join hosts Uganda in the last four from Group A. Somalia, on the other hand, needed three points to progress.
Despite Somalia's urgency for a goal, Eritrea's goalkeeper Said Aweys Ali made crucial saves, including one from a Robel Kidane's effort. Eritrea took control of the match in the second half and pinned Somalia to their own half, but could not convert their chances.
The 0-0 draw meant Eritrea progressed to the semifinals with two wins and a draw, setting up a showdown with Kenya's Harambee Stars, who sailed to the semis as Group A winners.
