On December 13, 2019, a group of 17 people were admitted to Baringo referral hospital after consuming contaminated food, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
Four of the victims were rushed to Mediheal hospital in Eldoret for further treatment, while the remaining patients continue to receive care at Baringo referral hospital.
Doctors at Mediheal hospital have described the condition of the four patients as critical, with their nervous system, brain, and other peripheral organs affected.
The patients will remain under close observation for two to three days as they continue to receive treatment.
Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis has urged the agricultural department to investigate the root cause of the food poisoning by visiting all irrigation schemes in the area.
As the investigation continues, samples have been taken to the government chemist in Kisumu for further analysis.
The county boss has assured the people of Baringo that they expect to receive a report within two weeks and that no stone will be left unturned in the investigation.
