The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has taken swift action to address concerns over the safety record of Tahmeed Coach Limited, a prominent Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operator in Kenya.

According to NTSA, the decision to summon the company's officials was made in response to numerous complaints of recklessness lodged against the company by members of the public.

These complaints, coupled with reports of near-fatal crashes, have put the spotlight on Tahmeed Coach Limited's safety record.

Meanwhile, Modern Coast Bus Company, which was involved in a fatal crash along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway last week, has refuted claims that the accident was caused by driver fatigue.

Speaking during a vehicle inspection at NTSA's yard in Miritini, Modern Coast's Operations Manager, Juma Nyundo, emphasized that the company has been complying with all PSV regulations, including regular inspections of its fleet and road safety training for its drivers and conductors.

NTSA has required Modern Coast to comply with several conditions, including adherence to all PSV regulations, inspection of its 85 serviceable buses, and road safety training for its 182 drivers and 93 conductors.

The bus company has also been asked to prepare and submit its existing road safety policies, including a Fatigue Management Policy.

As a result of the suspension of its license, Modern Coast has secured the services of Tahmeed Coach Limited to cater for stranded travelers.

Travelers who had booked with Modern Coast will have their monies refunded if the suspension of the license is not lifted by Monday.
