On December 14, 2019, a tragic incident unfolded at Rodi Kopany market in Homa Bay Sub County, leaving traders in a sombre mood.

A 33-year-old man, Tobias Otieno, took his own life after stabbing his ex-lover, Irene Akoth, 23, in broad daylight.

The incident occurred along the Rodi Kopany Ndhiwa road, where Akoth was preparing chips for sale.

According to eyewitnesses, Otieno became violent after Akoth refused to renew their relationship, prompting him to stab her with a kitchen knife.

Members of the public rushed to the scene and rescued Akoth, who was rushed to California hospital with severe injuries.

Confirming the incident, Fredrick Onyango, the chief of Kalanya Kanyango location, stated that Otieno had been seeking to rekindle their relationship, but Akoth had refused.

Onyango further revealed that after the police searched Otieno's pocket, they found pesticides for ticks and a kitchen knife with bloodstains.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Homa Bay County Referral hospital for postmortem, while police officers have launched investigations into the incident.
