On Jamuhuri Day, December 12, 2019, a tragic incident unfolded in Nakuru when a 24-year-old woman stabbed her 25-year-old husband to death in a domestic dispute.
According to eyewitnesses, the couple, who had a young baby, spent the better part of the night quarrelling before the woman, identified as Mercy Njeri, picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed the man, who was only identified by one name Kevin, killing him instantly.
Police arrived at the scene at Gorofani Estate, Pipeline area but were unable to access the house as hundreds of area residents surrounded the house, baying for the woman's blood.
The caretaker of the building, Boniface Kariuki, reported that the woman went into shock after realising the gravity of her actions, having stabbed the man once in the chest.
The body of the deceased and the suspect were holed up in the house for hours as police tried to disperse the angry crowd.
